Next Sunday 26th February will have hundreds of people travelling to Apollo Bay to participate in the Ford Otway Cycling Classic. The scenic 2012 Ford Otway Cycling Classic is a mass participation road cycling event (not a race!) providing the opportunity to cycle the most spectacular road riding course in the country, in support of philanthropic organisation Give Where You Live. Entries are still open right up to the start of each ride, just call in to the Information Marquee located on the Apollo Bay Foreshore near the Golf Course before starting. This will be open on Sat 25th Feb (5pm – 8pm) and also Sun 26th (7am – 5:30pm) for event enquiries, new entries, ride information, BBQ, music & entertainment, prizes & giveaways. The event offers 3 different rides to suit all types of cyclists:

 

1. 140 Km Rainforest Circuit (challenging): Apollo Bay, Turton’s Track, Lavers Hill Johanna  Apollo Bay (optional side trips to Otway Fly & Lighthouse with free entry for participants)

2. 70 Km Lighthouse Discovery Ride (intermediate): Apollo Bay,  Cape Otway Lightstation (return)

3.  23 Km Waterfall Explorer Ride (families & newcomers to cycling): Apollo Bay,  Marriner’s Falls (return)

 

Road Closures

All roads will remain open to the public and NORMAL ROAD RULES WILL APPLY AT ALL TIMES with the following exceptions:

McLaren Parade  (road coming off the GOR next to the Great Ocean Hotel/Top Pub in Apollo Bay) – this is the starting point for all 3 rides and will be closed to cars all day Sunday)

Turton’s Track – will be closed to all cars between 8:30am – 11:30am
